Red Syrah Grenache

On the Mediterranean coast near the Spanish border, in a wine region that historically specialized in sweet Muscat, the Barbé family is reinventing this region with red wines that are generous in body and aromas.

CLIMATE

2008 offered low yields resulting in wine with above average natural concentration.

VINES

Syrah 50% (25 year old vines planted at 4000 vines per ha), Grenache 50% (30 year old vines planted at 4000 vines per ha).

FARMING METHODS

Bush vines and trellised vines.

WINE-MAKING

Maceration for 15 days with regular pump-overs and temperature maintained between 28-30°C for the duration of the alcoholic fermentation.

MATURING AND BOTTLING

Stored in stainless steel vats. Fined with gelatin and non-sterile filtration before bottling.

TASTING NOTES

Ruby red with purple reflections. The nose offers lively aromas of fresh red berries (raspberries) and black berries. In the mouth, the attack is supple with fine tannins, pleasant spicy and slightly peppered tones coming through on the finish, offering a charming structure to this wine.

MEAL SUGGESTION

Barbecue, beaf, grilled chicken.
